Many years ago I felt an urge to share my story. The story of a lost and broken girl who found hope in God. You see, I was a suicidal party girl who was empty inside. When I got the courage in 2016 to share my testimony, the fear of what others would think quickly took over me and the video I posted on YouTube I quickly deleted. I was also not in a good place back then. I was in a toxic marriage, depressed, having anxiety and panic attacks, while working in a salon and also trying to care for an autistic child and an overly energetic 1st grader.
I had so much on my plate, and the more I prayed the more I felt the heaviness. I felt so alone, but I was for certain that there were probably other women experiencing something similar. I searched online for someone I could resonate with. I searched for books, podcasts, and more but never quite found the message I needed to hear.
It was either too spiritual or coming from someone who I had nothing in common with. Being a Chicana from the hood who loves Jesus, well the message hits different coming from someone who has walked in my shoes.
Fast forward to 2018, my daughter revealed a secret that shattered my whole world. And though it was devastating it became another story and testimony of how God showed up.
In the midst of my healing journey I felt the urge once more to share my story. And as I tried to figure out exactly what that would look like, I learned to start a podcast. Not only was it a place to share my story, it was a place where my healing would go deeper.
It started with what I called the “virtual coffee table” back then. It was where women of faith came to share their story, dive into the Word, and uplift and encourage other women. Coffee Jeans & Jesus was literally the virtual coffee table.
And though I loved building that brand for almost a year, one day on my way to therapy I was inspired to start something completely new and different.
It would still be a place to share stories except this time it was for the woman who needed a little sisterhood, some realness and authenticity, with some faith and culture sprinkled in. And so The Fearless Mujer was born.
The Fearless Mujer Podcast was created for the girl who has felt rejected, alone, misunderstood, judged, and without a seat at the table.
It was created for the girl who wished she had someone who would have looked out for her, and who would have magnified her gifts and talents.
The Fearless Mujer is a safe space where women come together to be reminded that their past does not define them, their purpose is bigger, and that the setback is always a stepping stone to something greater!
It's a space where women break free from cultural beliefs and limiting mindsets that hold them back from pursuing their bigger dreams.
And it's also a space where through a cup of "virtual Cafecito" women heal, find their voice, and they let go of the past version of of who they once were that still says, "You're not good enough."
It's where real stories are told. - A no holding back kind of space.
The stories on the podcast were just the beginning, because 4 years later another story was being told but this time in the form of a book. Dear Fearless Mujer, You Were Created for More - A journey to healing, letting go, & finding purpose was a book for the Mujer who had ever experienced a painful secret, betrayal, and also the beauty of letting go.
The book is my raw journey of healing, finding my voice, and true identity. It's my story of learning that what was meant to destroy me, became what prepared me to lead and empower those around me. It's when I learned that a painful chapter in life doesn't have to be where your story ends, it can be where your story begins.
Your story matters and you should never be ashamed of what you've been through or where you come from.
What started as a podcast became a book. That book inspired many women to begin sharing their stories of sexual abuse, trauma, brokenness, and more.
It inspired women to talk about the things unspoken, and to begin healing.
And it inspired other women to begin their walk with God. You see, your story isn't just a story. It's the courage that you find to rise when it feels like you've been defeated.
There is nothing shameful about that. Your story is something beautiful.
If there's an urge in your heart to share your story, please don't wait until it's pretty and polished.
Trust me, it will be nothing but messy in the beginning.
But, if you take that leap of faith all the dots will begin to connect. Your painful story can be another Mujer's
beautiful treasure.
Always remember that your story is yours, and no one has the right to share your story. You decide who to share it with and what parts you share. But don't ever be afraid or ashamed of your story. - There's something truly special about it.
Your story has helped shape you. It carries traces of where you’ve been, who you’ve known, what you’ve done… it’s powerful and it speaks volumes.
The good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your story are all beautiful. - And no one can tell your story quite like you.
So stop worrying so much about what other people might say or think if you begin to share your story.
Let people talk, because what they are doing is fueling the story and message God is trying to birth through you.
Girl, it's time to share your story. Someone is waiting to hear what you have to say.
